Misfits have often been part of rock & roll, but of the many
outsiders, few have been as clear-eyed, passionate, and savagely witty
as Jarvis Cocker. Cocker is probably best known as the leader of the band Pulp. His solo album simply titled Jarvis is a great pop album. Cocker is shameless in his borrowing of hooks from already great classic songs. Jarvis borrows the hook to Tommy James' "Crimson and Clover" on "Black Magic"- he truly is shameless. I love this record. I could listen to it all day and never get tired of it. Cocker's voice reminds me a bit of a young Elvis Costello mixed in with a little Lloyd Cole. Jarvis's acerbic wit combined with lush melodies make this record a classic in my opinion. If you have a chance go pick this record up you won't be disappointed. Enjoy "Heavy Weather", "Black Magic" and "Tonite" from Jarvis Cocker.
