This is Eli. Eli is my little man. He packs a lot of attitude in a compact little body. Eli is a jovial little fellow who runs like a stoned bunny rabbit, sleeps under the covers near his Mommy, loves a long bath, and likes to patrol the house for intruders. He is perfect in almost every single way other than he is loud and he startles other dogs.
There is a dog park by my house that I like to take Eli and Lola to when the weather is nice. Eli likes to run with the big dogs and Lola likes to wander around looking for love from all the other dog owners. This afternoon we went to the park and for the second time in two weeks Eli was bit by a Pit Bull.
When it happened two weeks ago I was a little miffed, but I understand that dogs are dogs and that because Eli snorts he startles other dogs. Plan and simple Eli startled the dog and the dog nipped the top of his ear. The dog owner was very apologetic and asked if he was OK and immediately left with his dog. Today was a different story.
I knew something was wrong when I walked into the park and a pit looking very similar to the one on the left was tethered to the fence by his owner. Right away Eli and Lola started playing with a beautiful bulldog puppy and having a good time. This would be short lived. The owner of the tethered pit decided to let it off the leash. This act caused unrest in the park. The dog was anxious from being on the leash and started barking and playing rough with the other dogs. The owner handled this situation not by leaving, but by putting the leash back on the dog and staying in the park. Seeing this I got Eli and Lola and we went to another corner of the park. Well Eli being Eli had to see what was going on and went over to the leashed dog. The dog bit Eli before I could even call his name. Eli was about a foot and half in the air hanging by the scruff of his neck while this dog was violently shaking him. I freaked out like I have never freaked out before. I was screaming at the top of my lungs while the owner basically did nothing to stop this. It finally ended. Eli now has a puncture wound by his ear and on the back of his neck. I took him to the vet and she shaved patches off his head/neck, cleaned his wounds, gave him a rabies booster, and some antibiotics to make sure it doesn't get infected. Thankfully he doesn't have to wear the "cone of silence" as a result of his injuries. When his ass blew out (don't ask) he had to wear one and he looked like an inbred member of the Tudor family. Now, he just looks like a "Frankenfrenchie".
I was raised with dogs my whole life and I firmly believe there is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners. Now I'm beginning to wonder if this is true.
Oh no! Poor Eli... That really sounds like a bad dog owner, though. Mmmmmph! Poor baby.

Book Stud-You are probably right about it being a bad owner and not the dog. I just can't believe he has been bit by the same type of dog twice in the last two weeks.
Mrs. SP- Yes, the other owners freaked when this was going on. They were quite concerned about Eli. Gives me faith in other dog owners.
I'm just happy that he is going to be OK.
