Stephen Malkmus might be my favorite smart ass in rock music. He blends crazy pop harmonies with biting sarcastic lyrics. Malkmus was the front man for the band Pavement. I will admit to being a bit obsessed with Pavement in my younger days. I have probably seen them over a dozen times. I keep hoping there will be a reunion tour. If the Pixies can reunite, why can't Pavement? My point to this is Stephen Malkmus is playing this year at Pitchfork in Chicago.
Pitchfork is a like the Indie version of Lollapalooza. Bands such as Iron and Wine, The Sea and Cake, and of course Malkmus will be there rockin' Chicago. The highlight of the whole fest is going to be Sonic Youth doing Daydream Nation live. I'm so excited to go. Mr. Chuck called me on the phone and goes "Dude, Daydream Nation you gotta come home so we can go." Mr. Chuck and I have very similar tastes in music. Although he thinks Morcheeba is the poor man's Portisehead. I will disagree with him on this until the end of time, but that is for another post. The one thing we do agree on is how much we like Sonic Youth. Back in the day when Mr. Chuck would drive me to school we would listen to Daydream Nation in the car.
So, July 13-15 I will be in Chicago taking it all in with Mr. Chuck and by that time Mr. and Mrs. Schott. I highly urge all of you to come to Chicago take in the sites and sounds, drink the local beer, and eat some Wisconsin cheese. But in the meantime here are some Stephen Malkmus tunes to tide you over.

*another reason to like Malkmus is because he mocked Billy Pumpkin to his face.
