Man by nature is a damn mess. That is why we have rules and order. One of the rules which must be obeyed at all times is: Never ever shake off your catcher. Ted Lilly learned this the hard way last night. Lilly shook off catcher Geovany Soto's call for a curveball on a 3-2 count to Arizona's Chris Young in the second inning with two runners on and the Cubs leading 2-0. Young hit a three run homer. Let me tell you that ball got out of there. Anything that flies that far and that fast ought to have a stewardess on board.
The show wasn't over just yet. After Young hit that dinger Lilly threw his glove on the mound in a fit of rage. I haven't seen anybody throw a glove that hard since Tanner Boyle threw his in The Bad News Bears.
The Cubs got problems. They are down 2 games to none in a 5 game series. This is a tough hole to get out of. Luckily they are returning to the Friendly Confines for Saturday's game. I think they can win at least one. It's supposed to be a beautiful day in the Windy City. Let's hope for Schott and the rest of Cub Nation the sun shines on the north side.
