Nothing brought me more pleasure than seeing the Yankees get bounced from post season early for the fourth straight year in a row. I'm hoping that A Rod takes his odyssey on the road so I don't have to spend another baseball season reading about him in the Post. Please A Rod go to Anaheim so I don't even have to see you on "Yankee-Jazeera".
The ALCS starts Friday with the BoSox vs. the Tribe. I hope it goes 7 games. I hope the Tribe wins, but I hope Manny Ramirez has a killer series. I used to not be a big Manny fan. It was somewhat of a love/hate relationship. I found him to be arrogant, aloof, lazy, and to be quite honest retarded. But at the same time the guy is an awesome baseball player. Over the past year or so I've been come to see the light. Manny Ramirez might be the smartest and funniest man in baseball.
Manny understands that he gets paid an obscene amount of money to play baseball. It's a simple game-you throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and sometimes it rains. It used to irk me to no end when he would whine about how under appreciated he was by the BoSox organization and how he wanted to trade. I was even more irked that nobody wanted him. He has 490 HRs and 1650 RBIs. Ramirez wanted out of Beantown so bad that he was willing to play for the team’s AAA affiliate in Pawtucket. Who the fuck says that? Who would rather shag fly balls in Rhode Island than at Fenway? At first I thought it was insane and then I just realized it's pure comedic genius. When questioned by Jim Duquette about why after ball four he steps back into the batter's box this is what he said: I don’t keep track of the balls. I don’t keep track of the
strikes, either, until I got two. Duke, I’m up there
looking for a pitch I can hit. If I don’t get it, I wait for the umpire
to tell me to go to first. Isn’t that what you’re paying me to do? Pure logic, thank you Manny. I just love the fact that he refuses to talk to the media in Boston. Unlike his asshole teammate Curt Schilling who never quits running his mouth. Ramirez, when asked by the media why he doesn't talk to them simply says: I’m here. I get paid to play baseball. That’s why I’m here. That's some insight into the Tao of Manny. This year for spring training Manny handed out t-shirts which said "Manny Being Manny" with his career stats on the back. Awesome. Manny did this after being seen at a classic car auction after he told the BoSox he hurt his back and couldn't make it on time to spring training. This spring ESPN reported that Manny was auctioning off a gas grill on Ebay. I can see the ad now, Hi, I'm Manny Ramirez. Would you like to buy my gas grill? If you like it email me. [email protected]. If you bought the grill he was also including a box of autographed balls. How awesome is that? When I grow up I wanna be Manny Ramirez.
* I'm thinking about making t-shirts that say "Strong being Strong" with my stats on the back. If you want one give me a size and an address and I'll make you one.
NICE NEW TEMPLATE!!! Was this a pre-designed template or did you design it? Either way, I really like it.

God as my witness, that pic of Manny and his Weber is going to be our Christmas card this year. The Geek won't object, even though he's Jewish and doesn't really go in for that sort of thing. The pic's just too good....hell, maybe that'll be the cover of our wedding invite if we ever do eventually get around to all that.
Aaaanyway....as you know, I've been wandering around, utterly bereft and somewhat lost, with a little stream of drool snaking down my chin, since my beloved Yanks went down in flames in four to your...ahem...."Tribe." (Baseball really does lag behind in cultural sensitivity, doesn't it?) Anyway, I digress. What I wanted to say was DIRTY CHILI-OVER-MACARONI EATING BASTARDS. But then, what the hell do you expect when nobody in pinstripes can seem to swing the bat and get a goddamn runner in scoring position, much LESS bring the poor guy 180 feet to the plate when they do? Christ on a crutch, they were just lame. And I'm not entirely sure Joe Torre ought not be at least encouraged to retire. Yes, I just said that. Just...the FUCK is happening with the pitching staff? And, seriously, these guys are getting a little long in the tooth, no? I mean, they'll need cans of Metamucil next to the bubble gum and sunflower seeds in the dugout in a couple of years. I love Jorge, Jeter, Matsui and even Giambi earns my grudging respect for how he handled his own personal doping scandal, but THESE. DUDES. ARE. OLD. And I should know. I'm older than all of them except Posada. *sob*
Let us not touch the A-Rod subject for the time being. I just...I can't right now.
But back to Manny....you know what? I love the guy. Love him. Yes, he looks like he sneaks out to the parking lot between innings and pries hubcaps off SUVs with his teeth, and one does have to measure his head for that odd dread-panty when requisitioning his uniform every year, but does any of that matter? No. The guy can play baseball. And, he shows just enough smirking, knowing contempt for the fact that he gets paid a fuckload of money to play a game with his every word and deed, which I love. AND, he does just basically whatever the hell he wants to do, secure in the knowledge that he can come back to Fenway at his leisure and begin hitting dingers and knocking in runs when he's done looking at shiny stuff. Actually, I don't love the guy - I want to BE the guy. Maybe it's all the same thing.
Anyway....thanks for the post and for digging up that pic. Shit you not, grrrl, be on the lookout for the card. And, yes, I hereby officially request a tee-shirt, size small.
