Basic math will get you everytime...

My man here Sergio Garcia was disqualified from the PGA Championship on Saturday for turning in an incorrect score card.  Garcia's playing partner Boo (never trust a grown man named "Boo") Weekley gave Garcia a 4 instead of a 5 on the 17th hole.  By the time math boy Boo had realized his error El Nino was nowhere to be found.
I don't know who is dumber Boo or Garcia.  Some would say Boo.  Granted you should be able to count your playing partner's strokes, but come on.  How dumb can you be for not checking your partner's work?  As to who gets the title of Dumbass -well in my book it's a tie. 
Here is a little sample of Boo's version of the blame game:
"It's my fault for putting the wrong score in, but it's his fault for not checking," said Weekley, who shot 5-under 65. "I just said 'Sergio, I put a 4 but in fact you had a 5.' He said, 'That just puts the icing on the cake."'
Good stuff kids, good stuff.

Nice hat Boo.  Maybe you should've worn your thinking cap on Saturday and helped out Sergio. 

Sergio, your excuses are your own....

I used to think that Colin Montgomerie was the biggest cry baby in golf.  Monty was recently replaced by Sergio Garcia's bitching about the British Open.  Sergio led the British Open for 72 holes.  For those of you who know nothing about golf-he essentially led all 4 days.  The Open was his for the taking, but a missed put opened the door for Padraig Harrington to beat him in a playoff. 
I've been known to implode on the 18th hole many times.  Just ask the EARL about the implosion I had in February-it was unfucking real. It took me 3 shots to get out of the tee-box.  But, that is a story for another time.  Sergio seems to be making excuses for his inability to seal the deal at  Carnoustie.  In his mind many things contributed to his demise.  Keep in mind that in EL NINO's eyes none of it was his fault. The slow raking of a bunker on the 18th green threw off his MOJO. He lamented the putt on the final green that did not fall. He suggested a higher power was at work for all of his bad breaks.  Are you telling me that GOD didn't want Sergio Garcia to win the British Open?  Give me a fucking break.  GOD has nothing to do with whether or not you win a sporting event.  When I hear things like this I just want to scream my favorite line from Glengary Glen Ross at the TV-"Your excuses are your own!  Live with it!"  Seriously this shit makes me crazy.  Just admit that you didn't have the stones to seal the deal.  Admit to your own shortcomings don't play the blame game.  Sack up Sergio and take it like a man.  You choked at the British Open. 
This weekend is the PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa.  Should be interesting to see if part deux of the blame game gets played.  Don't get me wrong I think Sergio is a great golfer and will win a major before his career is over.  But, in the meantime I think he could learn a little bit from my man Phil Mickelson.  Mickelson was on tour for 10 years before he won a major and not once did he ever make an excuses for not winning.  Phil simply talked of his own shortcomings and moved on. 
*I told LIBBY that I thought the reason why Sergio couldn't win was because of his poor taste in fashion.  LIBBY says keep the colors, but get rid of the tapered legs.  He could be on to something.

Reliving the past with Jean Van de Velde

I've been a little out of it the past couple of weeks.  I didn't even realize that the British Open was this week until I was told by AngryCharms to "Hurry the fuck up and give me your picks for the Open."  Yes, I gamble on golf.  When I think of the British Open this image always comes to mind.  The dude in the water is Jean Van de Velde.   In 1999 Van de Velde had the mother of all meltdowns at Carnoustie.  It puts all of my meltdowns to shame.  All he had to do was shoot a double bogey 6 on the 18th hole and he would have been the first Frenchmen to win the British Open since 1907.  You can read the whole story here.   
This year the open returns to Carnoustie.  Unfortunately Van de Velde will not be there to revisit the site of his infamous meltdown.  I was a little bummed when I heard he wouldn't be there.  My pick for the Open this year is Carl Pettersson.  You gotta love a Swede who looks like a drunken sailor.

The Battle At Oakmont

Congrats Angel Cabrera on beating the beast that is Oakmont.

Maybe Next Year....

Phil Mickelson needs to win the US Open.  Unfortunately, this is not going to be his year.  Philly has been plagued with wrist problems for the last couple of weeks-not what you want going into the Open.  Tack on the sadistic tendencies of the USGA when it comes to the Open and I got a better chance of winning.  The battle at Oakmont is going to be ugly.

Am I the only person tired of Michelle Wie?

Michelle Wie is annoying.  Wie gets more press than Terrell Owens.  Amazing for a girl who only recently got her drivers license.  For those of you unfamiliar with "the big wiesy" you can read all about her here. 

What gets my goat about Wie is that she has absolutely no respect for the other players on the LPGA tour.  Wie does not have a tour card and plays at all major tournaments with exemption cards.  Basically that means that she gets a free pass to come play while other players have to try to qualify for these events.  That is bullshit.  Paula Crammer, Morgan Pressel, Annika Sorrenstam, Karrie Webb all had to go to Q School and qualify to be on tour.  What makes Wie any different?  If she is getting paid and believe me she is getting paid she should have to go to Q School.  Nike pays her $20 million a year in endorsements.  Thats a lot of coin to spend on tasteless earrings.

There is no doubt that Wie is talented.  She has a beautiful swing and she can get a hold of the ball.  But, it seems to me that Wie is constantly trying to bend the rules.  The rules of golf much like the rules of hair care are finite.  You have to follow them.  Without these rules there would be anarchy in the world.  The purpose of this whole rant has to do with Wie's behavior at the Ginn Tournament this weekend.  Wie pulled out because she had a wrist injury.  This injury has become suspect to many on the tour.  Wie was on the cusp of not breaking 88 as a round score.  If you fail to break an 88 at any point during the season and you aren't a member of the LPGA you're banned from all events for the rest of the season.  Wie's manager was alerted of this by LPGA officials.  Wie met with her manager and decided to withdraw from the tournament with a "wrist injury".  That is weak.  First of all why is the LPGA alerting a manager of the rules and second why is he allowed to meet with her on the course to discuss this?  A player can only take advice from his/her caddie while playing a round.  After conferencing with her manager she simply told the rules official "We aren't going to play anymore".  This disgusts me to no end.  I can't decide who disgusts me more.  Wie for bending the rules on numerous occasions? Or the LPGA for continuing to cater to her?
